SPSSEG Presents At Green Congress
The South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group participated in this years Green Congress event held at the Evergreen State College. The event is sponsored by the Nisqually River Education Project and South Sound GREEN. This event has local school children, selected by their teachers, presenting and attending workshops on environmental subjects and themes. The morning sessions are based in classrooms on the TESC campus and in the afternoon, many of the activities move off site or outside.
SPSSEG presented at the afternoon session with a field trip to Beatty Creek in the Black Hills. Beatty Creek is home to a successful salmon habitat restoration project completed in 2004. The site offers children a wonderful chance to see several restoration techniques combined in a small area that is easily accessible and safe to tour. The group’s activity was called ‘Salmon Sleuths’ and our goal was to have the children ‘sleuth’ the stream to assess its potential for spawning. The rain held off, the kids were engaged and the activity was educational as well as great fun! We look forward to next year!
SPSSEG participates regularly in events such as the Nisqually Watershed Festival, Mason Conservation District’s Forest Festival Field Day, Kids With Conservation Knowledge, Olympia’s Outdoor Life Festival and Pt. Defiance Zoo’s Earth Day and World Ocean Day celebrations.
SPSSEG is also able to occasionally sponsor community such as the ones listed below. Please look for SPSSEG at an event near you!
