White River Stewards

The White River Stewards program is a collaboration between the U. S. Forest Service and the South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group (SPSSEG). The program is designed to provide salmon-focused environmental education opportunities to recreational users of the White River.

Join us Saturdays in July & August at the Dalles or Silver Springs campground, just past the town of Greenwater.

White River Stewards Program Features

Salmon Education Booth

We provide an informational table and offer information and answer questions about salmon and salmon stewardship ethics.

Interpretive Walks

White River Stewards provide guided stream walks along the John Muir Trail and other local trails. These walks offer an in-depth look at the native plants, water quality, and aquatic insect life that fulfill critical habitat needs for salmon. For a stream walk schedule, please check weekly announcements, located at local campsites, in July and August.

Nature Journaling

White River Stewards share techniques for appreciating nature through drawing and documenting the natural world, whether it is a mountain vista, the leaf of a maple tree, or a bull trout in a stream. Participants create a journal and drawings out of supplies provided by the River Stewards.
